DEFINE A PATTERN
Step 1 - Define Your Pattern in Just a Few Minutes
This tutorial will demonstrate how to define a pattern to use for filling in areas later.
So, you want to make a repeatable pattern? You have your pattern, design, whatever it is, and now you don't want to copy and paste it ten million times to cover a background. That is completely understandable!
Crop your image down to whatever size it is you want. Make sure the entire image is what you want as your pattern. If there are any spaces that might look awkward around the edges somehow, or interrupt your pattern when it is repeated, you'll want to take care of those right now.![]()
I did a really basic pattern to show you this tutorial. You can make yours as simple or as complex as you'd like.
Now that we have our image, all of the rest is mega-easy.
Edit>Define Pattern
Name your pattern.
Go to where you want to use your new pattern. I created a new document for this example.
Edit>Fill
Choose your pattern and change any of the settings you want.
And here's your pattern! Works like magic, and is worlds easier than copying and pasting your life away.
Enjoy!
