DYING HAIR IN A PHOTO

Step 3 - Dying Her Hair
Now that you have everything selected, inverse the selection: CTRL+SHIFT+I

Select the Magic Wand selection tool, hold down ALT and click on the background.  Make sure both Anti-alias and Contiguous boxes are checked when doing this.  This will deselect the bits of background you click on, so long as you hold down ALT while clicking.

Change the hair color by altering the Hue and Saturation.  CTRL+U



Once you change the color of her hair, you’ll notice that there are some harsh lines where you altered the color, like on her hairline on her forehead.



To solve this, use the Eraser tool with a Soft Round brush, and an opacity of 10%.  Change the size to about 50 and click along the edges of the harsh lines, gradually removing the color and revealing the original photo below.  This will give it a very smooth transition.



Use a much smaller brush, and more attention to detail as you go into areas where there are a lot of overlapping strands and locks of hair.  Like on the neck:
