Step 1 - Let's Make Lightning
Learn how to add homemade lightning to any image. It’s very easy to enhance any text with just a few easy effects.

Start off with a black background and your text on a separate layer.



Create a new layer below the text layer and above the background color.  Make sure the colors in your palette are black and white.  Just the Gradient Tool with a linear gradient and draw a line on the canvas with the mouse to form the gradient.



Now go to your Filters>Render>Difference Clouds



CTRL+L for the Levels window.  Slide the middle slider to the left, and play with the other two sliders until you get the desired lightning bolt.



To get the lightning white instead of black, hit CTRL+I to invert the colors. In the Layers window change the blending option from "Normal" to "Lighten". You won’t notice any changes until later.



Now, repeat these steps all over again on a new layer to create another piece of lightning.





And you’ll change the layer’s blending option to "Lighten".  This time you’ll see what it does. It’s eliminating all of the black and making the white/lighter areas visible instead.



Continue to do this until you get as many lightning bolts as you’d like.
